Ian Lankshear - Managing Director
Ian LankshearIan is a co-founder of EnSilica and has been Managing Director since incorporation in 2001. He has managed the growth and strategy of the company while keeping an in-depth technical understanding of the wide range of customer projects and IP developments. His technical experience includes base-band processing for GSM/EGPRS and DAB as well as video and image processing and compression standard such as H.264.

Before co-founding EnSilica Ian provided freelance ASIC consultancy services for Nokia Networks, leading teams to develop GSM/EGPRS chips-sets for base stations. Prior to this Ian was Principal Design Engineer at Hitachi Micro Systems Europe (now Renesas Technology Europe) developing single chip DAB base-band processors.

Ian has a first class BEng honours in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Portsmouth Polytechnic.
Philip Faulkner - Director of projects
Philip FaulknerPhilip’s role at EnSilica is to manage current projects to ensure that EnSilica’s track record of delivering high quality designs on time is maintained. In addition, he is focused on developing relationships with key customers and driving business development and new design wins.

Philip brings over 20 years of experience working on SoC designs - often with leading edge technologies using both ASIC and COT based design flows. He has extensive experience of supporting customer projects and understands the challenges and problems faced by companies undertaking IC developments in today’s competitive environment.

Prior to EnSilica, Philip held various engineering and management positions at a number of companies ranging from global semiconductor companies ( Nortel, Toshiba, LSI Logic) through to VC funded start-ups.

He has a Honours degree in Physics from the University of Southampton and a MBA through the Open University.
David Wheeler - Technical Director
David WheelerDr David Wheeler is a recognised authority on communications systems with 17 years' experience in the system simulation, design and testing of advanced air interface standards. He has worked on a range of products and technologies including GSM, GPRS, WLAN 802.11n, HomePlug, DMB and DVB-T2. He has particular expertise in the efficient implementation of synchronization, equalization and channel coding for OFDM. David is a creative, highly motivated individual combining technical knowledge with programme management skills. He has been awarded or cited in several patents covering the field of GSM and OFDM communications.

David has a BEng in Engineering Science from Exeter University, and a PhD in Signal Processing from Birmingham University. Between 1995 and 2000 he was involved in the early development of GSM and GPRS mobile handsets at NEC Technologies UK. Following that he developed complex DSP IP for Altera FPGA devices. This led in 2001 to his early involvement as Chief Engineer in the system design and signal processing for an 802.11a/b/g/n chipset at start-up Synad Technologies, which was later acquired by ST Microelectronics. From 2006 until joining EnSilica in 2009 David provided Consultancy services to both venture capital funded and Blue chip companies on innovative DSP and the adoption of SystemC for synthesis.
Ranganath Kempanahally - Engineering Director, India
Ranganath KempanahallyRanganath has 15 years of wide ranging experience in ASIC design and verification roles in India, the USA and the UK. His broad spectrum of experience includes architecting advanced verification environments using eRM, OVM and UVM methodologies. He has a Masters in Electronics from the University of Mangalore, India and an MBA in “Finance and Entrepreneurship” from Cranfield School of Management in the UK.
