Ian Lankshear

Ian Lankshear

Managing Director

Ian is a co-founder of EnSilica and has been Managing Director since incorporation in 2001. He has managed the growth and strategy of the company while keeping an in-depth technical understanding of the wide range of customer projects and IP developments. His technical experience includes base-band processing for GSM/EGPRS and DAB as well as video and image processing and compression standard such as H.264. Prior to EnSilica, Ian held various engineering positions at Nokia, Hitachi, Chemring, Siemens and Plessey Radar. Ian has a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Portsmouth.

Mark is a Chartered Accountant. After time with KPMG in their Latin American practice working on investment funds, insurance and offshore financing, Mark became a Partner with Grant Thornton and then Ernst & Young (1996) specialising in Strategy for mid-sized private companies. He advised on corporate transactions, worth in excess of £2bn. Since 2005 Mark has focussed on assisting SME’s with their corporate strategies. Mark focusses on the development of businesses by engagement of all stakeholders, promoting a transformation.

David Wheeler

David Wheeler

Technical Director

Dr David Wheeler has headed up the Software, Systems and IP development teams since joining the company in 2009. He brings 20+ years of experience in system simulation, architecting and developing products that include complex embedded software and hardware.

Previously David was involved in the early development of GSM and GPRS mobile handsets at NEC Technologies UK. Following that he was DSP IP Group Leader at Altera. Prior to joining EnSilica he was Chief Engineer in the system design and signal processing for an 802.11a/b/g/n chipset at ST Microelectronics.

David has several patents to his name and has authored a number of key papers in peer reviewed journals and conferences. David has a BEng in Engineering Science from Exeter University, and a PhD in Signal Processing from Birmingham University.

David Doyle

David Doyle

Commercial Director

David heads the company’s commercial activities and is a highly successful industry veteran with nearly 30 years experience in the MEMS, Semiconductor, Intellectual Property and CAD markets across Europe, USA & Asia. He joins EnSilica after running his own consulting practise for 2 years and before that Baolab Microsystems where he was CEO. Prior to that, Dave was VP Worldwide Field Operations at ARC International plc having seen the company through its IPO and subsequent growth over 9 years. He has also held senior sales & management positions at VeriBest/Mentor Graphics, Motorola Semiconductors GEC-Plessey Semiconductor and Ferranti Semiconductor.

Nick Weiner

Nick Weiner

Director AMS Design

Nick has headed up our Analog and Mixed-Signal design team, since joining the company in 2015. He brings many years of experience in analog and mixed-signal IC design, design management, business development and company management. Nick is well known within the industry having been a founder of Phyworks (sold to Maxim of California, in 2010) and Xintronix (sold to FTDI in 2013) and heading up the technical operation at Microcosm Communications (sold to Conexant of California in 2000). Prior to this he held management and design positions with Motorola Semiconductor and Wolfson Microelectronics. Nick has specialist knowledge in products developed for fibre optics communications including industry-leading fibre-to-the-home transceivers, 10 Gbps transceiver and signal integrity ICs. Nick holds a Bachelor’s degree from King’s College, University of London and a Master’s degree from University of California, Berkeley

Alan Wong

Director of RFIC Design

Alan brings 19 years of experience in the semiconductor industry and leads our low-power RF IC design team based near Oxford. Previously IC Design Director at Frontier Microsystems & Toumaz Ltd, alan led the design and delivery of ultra-low power wireless SoC products for WPAN/WBAN connectivity and digital broadcast reception. Prior to this he held technical positions at Sony Semiconductor, designing cellular transceivers for mobile handsets, Tokyo Electron and University of Oxford. Alan is a Chartered Engineer, Member of the IET UK, Senior member of the IEEE and a Technical Program Committee member for the International Solid-State Circuits Conference (ISSCC). He has published many papers in premier peer reviewed journals and conferences on the topic of ultra-low power wireless SoC design. Alan graduated from the University of Oxford with an MEng(hons) degree in Engineering Science.

Philip Faulkner

Director of Projects

Bringing nearly 30 years of experience working on SoC designs, Philip’s role is to leverage the engineering expertise within EnSilica to build high performing teams, that deliver successful projects to our customers. He has extensive experience of managing major customer projects and understands the challenges and problems faced by companies undertaking IC developments in today’s competitive environment.

Previously, Philip held various engineering and management positions at a number of companies ranging from global semiconductor companies (Nortel, Toshiba, LSI Logic) through to VC funded start-ups. He has a Honours degree in Physics from the University of Southampton and a MBA through the Open University.

Andy Maund

Director SoC Engineering

Andy has spent over 25 years working at the leading edge of ASIC and SoC development. He has extensive management and hands-on experience at all stages of the RTL-to-Silicon flow, gained across more than thirty foundry tapeouts, and at process nodes from 0.65um down to 28nm. Andy also has considerable project management and supplier management experience and has worked with a wide range of IP, EDA, and foundry service providers. His current engineering interests include low-power design techniques and dynamic SoC verification. Prior to joining EnSilica Andy held an engineering VP position at ZiiLabs (formerly 3Dlabs), and various other senior management and design roles involved with the development of 3Dlabs’ advanced graphics processing hardware. Andy has a First Class Honours degree in Computer Engineering from The City University, London

Ramesha Doddamane

Ramesh has 20 years experience covering verification, validation, programme and people management . His background is from Cypress semiconductors, were he was one of the early employee’s in India building the verification team from nothing to 25 . Ramesh has also worked at KPIT looking after defence customers and key semiconductor customer accounts such as ST, LSI , Cypress , NXP, PMC . He also spent 4 years working in California after starting his career in Analog and PCB design. Ramesh is responsible for overall management of EnSilica’s Bangalore office including strategic business development, developing customer relationships and driving sales and marketing activities.
